Question by Solo Parent: Anyone know of any major authors who refuse to sell out to Kindle and other electronic âbookâ devices?
Electronic âbooksâ (digital downloads) are obviously detrimental to literature and the world of publishing in so many ways. Thatâs a fact. But most authors are lured into it by more profits. Self publishing crackpots and gadget lovers are also huge advocates for it.
Nevertheless, does anyone know of any major published author who has refused to go to digital downloads?

JK Rowling â" I suppose sheâs made enough profits that making a legal e-book available isnât necessary.
On the other end of the spectrum, Stephen King published a novel (I think it was serialized) called The Plant that was only available for download, asking for a $ 1 payment per download. He did this long before e-readers were popular, in 2000. He also published UR strictly for the Kindle in 2009.

How is it a fact that e-books are detrimental to literature and the world of publishing? Thatâs not a fact. Thatâs your opinion.
On the contrary, I believe that any medium that allows more widespread distribution of great literature is a fantastic thing. Furthermore, in terms of business costs, e-books are great for publishers â" they cost less to produce so everyone brings home more profit, and they are sold at a lower cost to consumers, so people can buy (and thus read) more books.
The authors who are choosing not to license their books for electronic delivery are not luddites who think technology is detrimental to their writing â" they arenât happy with the contracts their publishers are offering them:
